Black Sands and the Move to Pahoa

On New Years Eve we packed up the rental car and headed east to our next destination, Pahoa. Pahoa is in the Puna district of southeastern Hawaii and where the hot lava is currently flowing. It is a rain forest down there, but we had great weather. We had been searching for shave ice (think snoopy snow cone x5) for a few days without any luck. So when we spotted it for sale a few miles out the door, we stopped for an early treat. We had a lunch break after making it midway to Volcano at Hana Hou. We bumped into some friends from my office in Fairbanks. Small island! After that we went to spend a few hours at the Black Sand Beach (Punalu'u). We always enjoy playing on the rocks and in the tide pools at this spot, and we always see a turtle sunning itself on the beach. Then we headed to Pahoa for New Years Eve Dinner (I had a Mai Thai) and to our next little place in the rain forest.

Finally! Yum! I'll take a large.

Happy New Year!

And in bed by 9!
