We ventured further out of Copenhagen the next few days. First to southern Denmark to the amazing Viking Ship Museum. This place was incredible. Ships excavated from wrecks in the harbor, recreations of boats, rope, and every tool used during the Viking Era. Lots of hands on activities. Incredible! After that we drove south to the small island of Møn. Here we ventured down the longest staircase we have ever seen to view the chalk cliffs and all the great chert eroding out of the chalk. The next day we spent most of the day at the Land of Legends, Sagnlanded Lejre. This is an open-air, living history museum that is incredible. Tons of hands on activities to get you and the kids through stone age and iron age. Families can even rent iron age houses. We paddled dug-out canoes, cooked our lunch over the fire, used a Viking ax, and ground our own grain for bread. From there we we headed back through Copenhagen and went east over the bridge to Sweden. Jeff wanted to check out the "Swedish Stone Henge" in the shape of a Viking ship. We got there right at sunset. Gorgeous!
Being Vikings at the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde.
Møns Klint staircase and the view from the bottom. Chert everywhere (people made tools from this material in prehistory).
Apple picking on the way to the outdoor history museum.
The awesome stone and iron age museum. We could have spent a week there!
