Gold Rush History (and Prehistory) Scamping Trip: Day 7

Day 7: Chilkoot Trail and Haines

Next stop, Chilkoot Trail! Jeff worked on the trail during his first summer in Alaska and Jack learned all about it in school this year. It was the route that gold miners took from Alaska to Canada to get to the Klondike. We hiked the first mile and a half. It was pretty fun! When the boys are a bit older we might do the whole trail. After the hike we headed to the ferry and travelled to Haines. In Haines, our friends from Juneau met us for a couple nights of camping.

Ready for the Chilkoot!

Cool old bridge.

The trail is steep, but very well maintained.

 Looking like an old miner.

The boys.

After the hike we went to look for Soapy Smith's grave site. He was a famous outlaw of the Klondike.

Cool waterfall!

Dad! There is gold here!

Lunch on the back of the truck while waiting for the ferry.

Good bye Skagway!

Hello Haines and our friends Trish, Adella, and Braith.

Beautiful night and a beautiful spot!
