Gold Rush History (and Prehistory) Scamping Trip: Day 2

Day 2: Kluane Lake Yukon
The next morning we made our way to the Alaska/Yukon border 20 miles down the road and stopped for a stretch. The boys were really thrilled with the idea that they could put one foot in each country. We made our way down the bumpy Yukon highway towards Kluane Lake, stopping here and there along the way. Our goal was never to spend more than about five hours in the car each day. We saw four big old grizzly bears eating weeds along the side of the highway, not a worry in the world (they don't do that so much in Alaska, they might get shot!). We spent that night at the Congdon Creek Campground at Kluane Lake. It was a gorgeous place, free firewood, and very peaceful. It was windy and chilly next to the lake, but we were sheltered at the campsite by trees and had beautiful warm sunny weather. Jeff made a gourmet camping meal that night and we played games in the scamp before bed. Nice night!

In and out of Alaska and Yukon!

This was a wee bit alarming but we saw no sign of bears at this spot!

Lake picture!
Finally some sun!

New birthday game to try out too!
