Dayna's Visit

My cousin Dayna came to visit us up in Alaska from Edmonton. America was a bit of a culture shock for her, but she got in the swing of things with visits to Santa, camping, and floating on the Chena. Where else can you do all that in the summer but Alaska? The boys loved having their big cousin around but reminded her daily that she was "still a kid". Jasper will especially miss Dayna! He got lots of extra love and attention.

On the way to the beach we stopped in North Pole for a coffee break. Santa was there. Will said "I thought you would be on vacation". Santa said that he takes his vacation in January and February.
Checking out the sleigh. They got candy sticks in Santa's tourist shop. Just like the ones that Mary and Laura got for Christmas (Little House).
Well, this one is not Rudolf, Blitzen?
Finally, the sun came out and we made it to the beach at Chena Lakes.
This guy still needs a nap, but it didn't last long.
Enjoying one of our FEW summer days!
Nothing like watermelon on a hot day.
Our camping trip to Denali was a hit. Here the boys are setting up their tent.
The girls' tent. I got a full night of sleep!
Crazy guys.
We found a fun little creek on a hike to the visitor's center.
The boys had tons of fun here, buildling dams and throwing rocks.
Miss Alaska.
Let's stay here all day!
Climbing the bridge trestles.
Finally made it to the visitor center.
Then back to camp. We went out for supper and came back for marshmallows,
stories,
more treats.... and then, bouncing around in the tent on a sugar high. (The boys- not Dayna).
Into the park the next morning. No animals, no Denali. Oh well!

And off for a hike and picnic lunch by the lake.
We all took a turn or two fishing.
Caught nothing but weeds!
And we also took turns getting silly hugs from Will.
Can't resist this face!
Another day we took a picnic and floated the Chena. It wasn't very warm out but we didn't get rained on!
Happy Family
River boys. Jasper came too and swam the whole way.
See you soon Scully! We will miss you.
