In May we began our Scamping Adventures for the summer with the little 1977 camper trailer that we purchased over the winter. She is a little worn, but way more comfortable than sleeping on the ground, and it is so nice to be able to get out of the rain. For our first adventure we packed up and went north to the Chatanika area. A friend from work was getting married at a lodge. A bunch of us had a cookout along the way (9 adults got into the scamp when the wind and the rain started up) and then we headed to the lodge to celebrate. We then camped at the campground up the road. It was a chilly night but we stayed warm in the Scamp!
First packing!
Getting ready for the cookout, we got cokes!!
Exploring a burnt down ski lodge next to the cookout spot.
At the Chatanika Roadhouse.
Cheers to the married couple with work folks and friends.
Jack loves putting up his dollar at places where they are pasted everywhere!
First pancake breakfast in the Scamp!
The next weekend Jeff had a colleague come in from out of town to work on a paper. He brought his two daughters that were just a year older than each of the boys. The kids had a great time climbing on anything they could, visiting a friends farm, and just playing playing playing.
Enjoying some warm weather with the hose!
Exploring the remains of a burnt down house in the neighborhood.
Pigs and cows and chickens, oh my!
The 3rd and 4th graders at Watershed also got to go on an end of the year camping trip! They camped out at Granite Tors (north of town towards the hot springs) and spent two nights out exploring. One day they hiked the whole 8 mile Angel Rocks trail to Chena Hot Springs and were rewarded with a long soak and fun swim. Jack had a great time. Jeff and I didn't go along at all!
The whole class and their two fearless leaders, Mr. Merrill and Mr. Decker!
The last weekend in May we took the Scamp out again. We headed down to Delta Junction and spent the night at the Clearwater campground. The next day some friends met us and we floated down the Clearwater. It is a long, but neat float. The Clearwater is spring fed and crystal clear. It meets up with the Tanana (glacial fed river- very silty) at the end of the float and it is neat to see the two waters swirl and mix.
Camp dinner, hot dogs on the fire.
Ready to go fishing!
The boys were all about fishing this trip.
Jack and Jeff found an archaeology site at the campground. We will have to record it one day!
Bedtime stories.
Everyone is snacking up during a break in the paddle.
You do the work, mom will take a nap.
Fun with friends!
