Florence

We went to Florence with Amy and Caroline. It was quite the adventure. We drove down and stayed at a hotel that was kind of far out. We had to take a bus into the center of the old city. In Florence we visited the Duomo. It was enormous and had a beautifully frescoed ceiling. We climbed to the top and had a look. We also did some museum trips to see Michelangelo & Leonardo masterpieces. Michelangelo was born in Florence, and many of his sculptures are still there. We didn't see the real David, he is in a museum that we didn't make it to, but a copy is outside in a square with a bunch of other Renaissance sculptures. After Florence, Amy went back to Feltre and Carolyn went back to the states. We were on our own for Rome.

Car snacks are messy.

Dinner.. guess what it was, pasta and pizza!

The beautiful cathedral in Florence.

Gelatos were expensive, but big, next to the Duomo.

Checking out the ceiling of the Duomo.
View from the top. Jack climbed all 442 stairs by himself.

Fake David.

Museums are great! When you can get down and explore! This was the Uffizi gallery. It holds the Medici collections. Boy do they have a lot of collections!

Jack's new rosary. He was so proud. Jack got really into the Catholic iconography. He loved the Jesus stories and had a great time picking out Mary and Jesus in paintings and on crosses. He wanted to know what powers Jesus had.

Steak dinner... I need meat!

Florence at sunset.

IKEA Florence! We stopped there in the morning before heading to Rome. So cute in this little kitchen.

Yum, plate of "fries" for lunch!

Way to go Jack on all those stairs! That's a great way to burn some energy. According to Ben Jesus is a super hero, Ben also enjoys the rosary he was given at school. It is very interesting how they are attracted to that sort of thing. Maybe on your next trip to Italy you'll have to visit the Vatican!
